Mt Rushmore Brewing Company and Pounding Father's Restaurant

Party of 8 came in and all of our food was ice cold. Server was not present until we complained about the food. One of our party went to the restroom and our food was sitting in the window, obviously it sat there for a very long time. Will never come back and will never recommend.The beer we got was decent and our bartender was great but that is the only good thing to say about the experience.

Servers were doing the best they could. We weren’t approached by waitstaff so we talked with the bartender to get a menu. Still no service so we went back to the bartender again. It was disappointing to see the owners sitting at a table doing paperwork when customers weren’t being served. Food was good when we finally got it.

Exceptional service compared to my other review with Dakota Cowboy. We chose to eat upstairs. Pretty good food and the server didn't miss a beat. Our server Marina is here from Romania on a University program. She was definitely on top of the game. Not to mention when we first walked in 2 people asked us if the could help us out before we even decided on what we wanted to do, either sit in the brewery or in the restuarant...What started off with a bad experience at Dakota Cowboy was made up with Mt. Rushmore Brewing Company. Thank you....

Very large brewery / resturant. They have a good variety of beer, and tasty food. The upstairs portion of the brewery was described to me as a classier dining area (serving steaks, pasta, etc) while the lower portion of the building serves bar food. The first floor is also where the beer is brewed. Customers can watch the brewers make the beer while they eat or drink. We ate in upstairs resturant and enjoyed the food. They offer all home-brewed beer upstairs. Downstairs they serve all Mt. Rushmore beer, as well as, a couple of other local craft beer selections. It appears that they are in the process of building a larger patio that will feature yard games, such as bean bags and potentially horseshoes. The restroom was clean. The wait staff was very friendly. If you find yourself in Custer with some time to kill, I would suggest checking out this brewery! Awesome place! Great food and beer and friendly bartender/server. Worth the drive from Mount Rushmore!

If you really like craft beer, pass on this one.Their IPA , well, tastes like the Budweiser of IPA's.

Don't order steak! We stopped here and had a great time when we were at the bar (in the brewery). Drinks were great along with the service. We then went up to the restaurant, that is where it went bad. We ordered the ribeye and the tenderloin. The tenderloin came out under cooked and had a "old" taste to it. The ribeye was thin, over cooked, and also had a "old" (like it was in the cooler to long). The vegetable tasted like they were right out of the frozen vegetables bag (I still have the bad taste in my mouth as I write this). At that point we stopped eating, paid our bill, and left. They did come up and asked if they could do any to fix it but by then we just wanted to leave.I can't tell you how the other items on the menu are, I can only tell you the beer and drinks are good, do NOT order the steak.

My brother and I had a great time and the selection of brews are amazing! Def gotta go back when the kitchen is open to try the food!!

Beer selection was good for a small town. Atmosphere was good. Food was mediocre. The burger was good, pizza was not...just not a lot of flavor. Prices where moderately high. Would go again for a beer and burger, but not much else.

Solid service and beer selection was decent. A couple standard beers and a couple unique beers. Didn't eat but looked like standard bar fare.

Loved the 🍻, food, setup and location. Highly recommend on your way down from Rushmore. Cornhole was a nice bonus while sitting on the deck.

Not a fan of most beers here I feel they have a weird aftertaste. For the town this is the most modern restaurant/bar with 2nd floor outdoor deck. Very large in comparison to the other 9 places in tiny town. The giant vats with taps on them is a cool plus see photo.

A sure stop for the southern Black Hills, beautiful atmosphere and tasty craft beer. The live music is gold, even when busy the sound is great! I highly recommend getting pizza and beer here! The style is local.

The overall brewery is very good with indoor and outdoor seating. The bar menu had a good variety of tasty items we had the wings and meat and cheese board both were very good. The beers were excellent with a wide selection. The beer menu did an excellent job of describing each beer. Were there on two occasions both times our waitperson was Rayne she was enthusiastic and did an awesome job taking care of us. Our favorite beer was the Scotch ale.

Good food. We ordered the fish meal and it was perfectly done. Happy anniversary to us!

Was really excited to come here and left disappointed. Ordered a flight and some food. The smoky porter, scotch, and juniper ales tasted good. Took almost an hour for my wife and I to get a bratwurst and fish and fries, which tasted mediocre. Waitress was super stressed because the guys in the kitchen had no idea what they were doing. Manager comped the meal, which was a nice gesture.

The 6th annual sounds of silence Tesla rally mixer was held here, so we got to try out some of their beers they had on tap. My preferred one was the lager and it was especially delicious. All of the staff on duty were great! I hope they have it again here next year, we'll make sure I sample a few more 😆

We stopped in while waiting for a pizza a few doors down. Got two flights and a couple of beers. Florin was excellent and really took care of us. Would consider this a must-stop-in while in Custer. Great merch. Nice job, guys!

The restaurant is one of the best that I have been to in Custer. The food is delicious and they even gave us complimentary fresh bread with different kinds of butters. Their beers are very good and there is such a wide variety available that anyone could find one that they like. I had the cherry wheat and it was delicious. Service is excellent and the servers take care to make sure that you are enjoying your meal.

Great place. Elk, Buffalo, and beef burgers were all incredible....made this TX family happy campers.

Great atmosphere beer and food , met the owners, they where awesome. It was a busy night but all was well when we employed a little patience. Custer SD is an easy place to relax.

We went here for dinner after a long day of exploring the hills. The beer was decent, the food; however, was lacking. I had fish and chips, which stated they came with a side, they didn't, the chips were the side and I was charged extra for a tiny cup of coleslaw. I also had to ask for tartar sauce, which they had to search for. My wife ordered a Reuben pizza. It looked disgusting (see photo). I should also mention our server was 16 (which she told us), which doesn't seem legal for serving alchohol. I wouldn't recommend for food, maybe just a beer.

The staff was very friendly. The beer and the food were excellent. The also had a band called My Second Rodeo there, and they were amazing too! I definitely recommend this place!

Good beer! And the food looked great too! They were pretty busy because it was the fourth but they did a fantastic job of getting us served and happy!

We came in on a Friday late afternoon, and asked to use the outside balcony, to accommodate our small dog. Mariana, a student from Romania, seated us, and was so helpful and gracious. The margaritas were tart and good. The summer salads were a work of art, and the dressing that we ordered tasted like freshly made. My wife wanted the duck linguine, but Mariana apologized that the duck was not available. No problem. She got the shrimp on the linguine. My 10oz prime steak, medium well, was sooo good. Melt in your mouth, drowning in a flavorful gravy, with perfect marbling of fat for flavor. A really great restaurant in Custer South Dakota for service and food.

Food was great! They forgot our fries, but the cook quickly got us some fresh fries. We tried a few types of local beers. They did not disappoint. We would go back!

Some of the beers are really good, but others still seem to need some work. The oatmeal stout, the cranberry juniper (!) special ale and the scotch ale are all strong choices. The IPAs and porters left a lot to be desired. Similarly for the food, stick to traditional bar food: the chicken wings are super-duper and the bratwurst is solid but I would not order the pizza again.

After seeing someone with a Mount Rushmore Brewing Company t-shirt on while visiting Mount Rushmore in the morning, we knew we figured out the perfect lunch spot. There was plenty of outdoor seating, and a great menu for our family.

Dog friendly deck service, complete with bringing your dog a water dish. They brew several different beers, seem to use a lot of Oregon grown hops. Can get a flight of any number you want. In short, $2 each for any number of samples you like. Vegan food options as well as the stand brewery food. We tried the buffalo burger and a cauliflower crust pizza. We had a non vegan pizza with real cheese and chicken. You do get your choice of white or red sauce if you choose one of the pizza options. Well worth stopping

The best food we've had while we were in town. Menu has a large variety and everything we ordered tasted fresh.

Excellent beers, rich flavors, no off tones. Hat tip to the brewmaster. Whole flight was top notch.

Best fries I've ever eaten, and I eat a lot of fries. Great burgers of all types, and not bad prices.

Was in town meeting some friends and was pleasantly surprised with the great beer here. I stayed on the IPA train but had a taste of everything. Fantastic good as well. Recommend the portobello sandwich!

Food was meh, service was polite, but not attentive. Our daughter is lactose intolerant, we were very clear that she couldn't have dairy, her burger came with cheese. My wife cannot have alcohol because of a temporary medication. She ordered a mac and cheese brat that taste like it was marinated in beer after it was cooked. The menu said nothing about it even being a beer brat. The mac and cheese was cold and congealed. On the beer note, I ordered a beer, never got it... it's a brewery that clearly isn't proud of its wares.

All around good experience. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was on par with a brewery experience. I had the fish and chips... no complaints. Craft beer, a few domestics and sodas for the kids or non-drinking folks.

WE HAD AN ABSOLUTE BLAST HERE! Really good beers, and we loved having yard games outside! The staff was fabulous and even got to meet one of the brewers! Will definitely come back!

The Pounding Fathers restaurant upstairs was awesome! Family setting.Perfectly cooked burgers. The name thing was a little confusing but we stayed for dessert. They did not disappoint!!

Good food and drink, very large bar and restaurant. Enjoyed playing a few games of shuffleboard before heading out on the road.
